If Seven wants sexy, why is David Koch surviving on Sunrise?

IF Channel 7 really wanted sexy and fun, why stick with the ageing and overly opinionated David Koch?

A television insider is reportedly claiming that Melissa Doyle had been removed from the flagship Sunrise breakfast show because she was seen as too old fashioned and 'mumsy'.

The younger Samantha Armytage, 35, is apparently seen by men as attractive while women like her 'sassy' sense of humour.

I'm not sure who Seven's researchers have been talking to, but everyone I speak with reckons they have dumped the wrong half of the team.

David Koch is a nice bloke. And he knows his finances better than anyone.

But when he opens his mouth on various issues often he is just plain embarrassing.

One only has to reflect back on the public furore around his breast-feeding comments concerning a Bribie Island mum to find evidence of that.

Even one of his daughters couldn't stomach what he had to say.

Replacing an experienced female TV presenter for someone younger should belong in the dark ages, if that is what has happened here.

Seven is denying reports out today, saying Doyle has been promoted to 'new prime-time initiative' from the news department.

But people like Tracey Spicer, who now works for SkyTV, know only too well that the TV industry has had a bad habit of putting a use-by-date for women.

Spicer won a $250,000 settlement in a discrimination case against Channel 10 six years ago.

She reckons Doyle is one of the best operators on television.

As she points out, if the Sunrise host has been moved on for someone younger and sexier, it seems the TV industry still has a lot to learn.

I, for one, believe experience matters when it comes to news and there have been plenty of examples where a 'pretty face' doesn't cut it in the cut and thrust of breaking news and politics.
