AFTER taking out the runner up spot last year, Tweed office supply business 'Cloud Office Supplies' has won a national award, the 2012 Brother/Stationary News Reseller of the Year Award in the under $5 million category.
Business owner Marty Bate said the business had operated from its premises for the last six years and won the award because of the business' innovative approach and its successful internet set up.
"We just do things a little differently," Mr Bate said.
"We focus on treating people like individuals, not like a number."
Mr Bate's success provides a real inspiration for other businesses and comes despite the office supplies sector doing it tough.
"The industry is hurting and people wonder what I'm doing to get these results," Mr Bate said.
"I've just taken on three more staff members and hope to build the business into a $20 million operation by 2022.
Mr Bate could still remember when, some six years ago, he got all excited about a delivery of a pallet of new stock.
"Now they deliver stock by the container load."
Mr Bate planned to increase the size of his storage area and increase his turn over by finding and servicing niche markets which remained untouched.
Some of the sales of items such as the range of products by office supply producer Dymo, had increased 1000% since last October.
The majority of sales were business to business via the internet and the company managed to attract the custom of huge corporations such as Coca Cola and Harley Davidson.
"I want to make the business the biggest on the Gold Coast.
"And I've got the enthusiasm and innovations to make it happen," Mr Bate said.
