Innovation needed for tourism
REGIONAL tourism organisations will take a lead role in helping Queensland's holiday industry double overnight visitor expenditure to $30 billion by 2020.
But the organisations will need to work together to devise "innovative and creative" projects to maximise the impact of $3.89 million extra funding to achieve it.
It could mean Capricorn and Bundaberg joining forces on a drive market campaign. Or Sunshine Coast and Fraser Coast teams collaborating on a trade event fitting their target markets.
Tourism Queensland wants to foster future-focused proposals to revitalise the industry which could mean cooperative marketing, product development, market intelligence or trade events.
Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey said depending on the project requirements the government would usually match the funding contribution of project partners dollar for dollar as part of the Contestable Grants Scheme.
