Investing in smart women

THE financial strain of undertaking higher education can be stressful but for four Tweed women, the load has been somewhat lifted.

Yesterday, at Kingscliff TAFE, Lisa Maree Cefai, Michelle Louise Caton, Chanthala Koukeomanivong and Tina Louise Hoobin each received cheques for $300 for trade kits, books, stationery and IT expenses.

Zonta and North Coast TAFE offered the Scholarships for Women to provide assistance for women studying at TAFE in the Tweed region experiencing financial hardship.

Ms Cefai, a Burringbar mother, is undertaking a Certificate 2 in Pharmacy Retail at Kingscliff TAFE and said the scholarship would help relieve some of the pressure.

"I have four young children, I work part time and I study as well. The financial strain at times can be overwhelming. This money will really help," Ms Cefai said.

"It will most probably go towards a lap top or additional training."

TAFE Services acting director Julia Board said the presentation was another example of North Coast TAFE and Zonta working together.

"These scholarships have helped a lot of women and have made a difference too many lives," Ms Board said.
