Baby and toddler killed in smash
TWO Ipswich children have been killed in a smash near Bundaberg after the car they were travelling in ran off the road and hit a tree.
The one-year-old child and a one-month-old baby died instantly when the four-wheel-drive left the Bruce Hwy at Apple Tree Creek, about 40km from Bundaberg, at 1.15am yesterday.
Seven family members were in the four-wheel drive wagon when it smashed into the tree.
Two other children, aged three and four, were airlifted to Brisbane in a serious condition.
Another child, aged seven, was being treated for lacerations at Bundaberg Hospital.
A Childers police spokesman said the family lived in Raceview until six months ago and had been based in Ballina in recent months.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash.
