SUNSHINE Coast iron woman Jordan Mercer has had the perfect preparation to her Molokai World Championship defence by taking out the Cline Man Memorial Ko'olaupoko paddle board race in Hawaii yesterday.
Arriving in Hawaii for a series of races in the lead-up to the Molokai later this month, the 18-year-old blitzed the field to record a time of 2hrs28mins for the 28km jaunt.
Ecstatic to have secured the win, Mercer said the paddle gave her a good indication of what to expect from the Hawaiian conditions.
"It was an even-balance race between testing conditions and beautiful scenery...," she said.
Landing in Hawaii just 24 hours prior to the race, Mercer shrugged off her jet lag to compete admirably.
Her father Darren Mercer said the win meant his daughter would carry some good form into the world-renowned Molokai event.
"It's a great result for her," he said.
"She decided to get there early to avoid getting distracted."
Mercer will compete in the Molokai race on July 28.
