It's cupcake day at the RSPCA
PIPPA the French bulldog is hoping that people will have the same appetite that she has for cupcakes, with a cupcake fundraiser today for the RSPCA.
Pippa's special diet went out the window yesterday after she ripped into a cupcake for a good cause.
Cupcake Day for the RSPCA 2011 is on today with all proceeds from the sale of cupcakes going towards veterinary bills for the Tweed Heads shelter.
RSPCA Tweed Heads customer service manager Leanne Austin said all money collected on the Tweed stays in the area.
“This is the third year of the cupcake day,” Ms Austin said.
“Today people can come in here to the RSPCA shelter or to the Pet Care Superstore and buy a cupcake for $3.
Money raised helps all the animals that come into the RSPCA on the Tweed, including residents of the Rabbit Resort.
Kyle is one of the residents of the resort.
“He's a very friendly bunny,” Ms Austin said.
“We do get a lot of rabbits here, because they are illegal in Queensland.
“People moving to north usually dump them here because we're on the border.”
Ms Austin said that often rabbits were for kids about five to 10 years old and they do grow out of them.
“Rabbits live up to six to eight years, some even live up to ten years,” she said.
Marie Gaardsted has volunteered at the RSPCA for more than five years. “People don't realise that a rabbit is an eight-year commitment.
