It’s raining, but we’re still on fire

IT may have been raining, but the lingering threat of bushfires was made clear when machinery sparked a grass fire in Carool on Wednesday.

Just after midday, the Rural Fire Service was alerted to a grass fire on Glengarrie Rd.

Tweed district RFS Inspector Bob Wilcox said it appeared the fire was caused by a slasher.

Insp Wilcox said a brigade from Bilambil attended, and quickly controlled the fire.

While no homes were directly threatened by the fire, Insp Wilcox said residents should remain cautious.

He said the minimal rain the Tweed's received this week shouldn't be taken for granted.

"As soon as the wind picks up again, everything will dry out," he said.
