Jazz greats to visit Tweed

A LOCAL music teacher will bring big-band jazz to the Tweed with a workshop and concert featuring three internationally renowned jazz musicians and Brisbane’s Australian Army Band.

Kingscliff resident Andrew Best runs the band program at Ban- ora Point Public School and also teaches two combined bands after school hours.

Mr Best said he had been involved in music most of his life and had invited John Morrison, John Hoffman and Jacki Cooper to the Tweed so that local students and community members could experience some of Australia’s finest big-band jazz members.

“John Morrison and Jacki Cooper have 25 years of experience between them and the workshop will see them sharing moments together,” Mr Best said.

Mr Best has funded the workshop and concert out of his own small budget.

“It may not return financially what I have put in, but it gives the community the chance to experience these guys,” Mr Best said.

The workshop and concert are at the Lakeside Christian Centre, Caloola Drive, Tweed Heads, on Thursday, November 19 with the workshop at 3.30pm and concert at 7pm.

Tickets are available on the day as well as in advance by ringing Andrew Best on 0439 110 255 – workshop, $20 and concert from $10.
