Jetski search ends with rescue

TWO men had to be rescued from their inflatable boat on Saturday afternoon after a search for their missing jetski turned nasty.

Tweed police Inspector Alan McKittrick said the 33-year-old Mermaid Waters man and a Japanese national were found by surf life savers floating a kilometre out to sea after the three horse-powered motor on their inflatable boat stalled.

The men had overestimated the power of the small motor in their haste to find their jetski, which had escaped its mooring near the Tweed River bar about 4pm.

Surf life savers in an inflatable rescue boat were able to bring the two men back to shore uninjured.

The jetski, however, was lost at sea.
