Jewellery on show at gallery
TWEED art lovers with an eye for jewellery design will be delighted by the Contemporary Wearables '11 exhibition on display at Tweed River Art Gallery.
The exhibition, which is a biennial award and is now in its 12th year, attracted entries from 110 of Australia's most creative artists.
Fifty artists had works selected for display in this Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery touring exhibition.
The award recognises and promotes innovation in design and use of materials in the creation of jewellery.
Gallery Director Susie Muddiman said all of the exhibition pieces highlight the creative skills of Australia's contemporary jewellery artists.
"It is amazing to see how artists can turn the traditional notion of jewellery into decorative and stunning pieces to wear or display as interesting works in their own right," Ms Muddiman said.
"By interpreting the complexity of human thought, this work bridges artistic form and function.
"It is a rare treat to have the opportunity to showcase such quality works by Australian artisans.
"Toowoomba Regional Gallery's support of this popular art form over so many years is to be commended. It is their long-term commitment that allows gallery visitors throughout Australia to view cutting-edge contemporary work of this genre."
The exhibition concludes on January 29.
