Job finders on course

STRONG demand for community care workers in the Tweed has helped an employment group in its campaign to get 1000 people employed in 100 days.

Nortec Employment and Training marketing co-ordinator Michelle Dowding said the group had found 790 people employment in 70 days.

"We may beat last year's result of 1238 people employed in the 100 days," Ms Dowding said.

"It has been really good and we are really surprised, considering how people feel about the economy at the moment.

"We are getting a lot of community service placements. Hospitality is still reasonable but that usually accelerates towards the end of the year."

Shonnae Johnson, who works at Blue Care Amaroo Aged Care Facility, said there was demand for community care workers.

"There is always going to be elderly people in the world," Ms Johnson.

Ms Johnson said there were plenty of challenges in her job.

"I expected to see a person passing on, but it was still a bit of a shock when I saw it," she said.

"But I love the job. I have a lot of respect for the elderly."

Ms Dowsing said there were a lot of community care opportunities.

"Skill yourself up in areas that have employment opportunities," she said.
