Jobs lost: Tweed Coast Weekly to close

ABOUT 20 jobs will be lost when newspaper the Tweed Coast Weekly issues its last edition tomorrow, December 19.

Last Friday after enjoying a Christmas lunch at The Ivory Tavern at Tweed Heads, staff returned to their Wharf St office to be advised that the publication would be closing its doors in a week.

An employee, who did not want to be named, said it did not come as a complete surprise with advertising revenue slumping to new lows in recent weeks.

The free publication was distributed throughout the Tweed on Thursdays.

It was purchased by the family-owned Star News Group this year.

The Tweed Coast Weekly is not connected with the Daily News or its sister publication the Tweed Border Mail.
