Joe Hockey says Federal Treasury cannot be trusted

SHADOW treasurer Joe Hockey has cast doubt over Treasury's pre-election budget update, saying the Coalition will not be relying on the figures because they cannot be trusted.

The Coalition had previously said it would release detailed costings of all its policies after the release of Treasury's Pre-election Fiscal Outlook (PEFO), which will be made public about 10 days into the official campaign.

The Government is expected to release its own economic statement shortly, before the election campaign begins.

Mr Hockey said the Coalition would no longer respect the figures in either the economic statement or PEFO.

"Quite clearly by flagging an economic statement the Government is trying to bully the public service into a set of numbers that clearly do not properly represent the state of the budget," Mr Hockey told AM.
