WHO else but future Immortal Johnathan Thurston?

He did it with one of the more memorable field goals to win last year's grand final against Brisbane, and he did it again at 1300 SMILES Stadium in yet another epic clash between the two Queensland giants.

Townsville's favourite son kicked North Queensland's winning field goal in the 75th minute to give his team a 19-18 win over the Broncos, meaning the past three clashes between these two teams have been decided by a point each.

In his 250th game for his beloved Cowboys, Thurston created the winning moment with his characteristic toughness, after copping a huge hit from Brisbane prop Josh McGuire in the previous play.

Another big match, another Thurston fairytale.

Down 18-6 early in the second half, the champion No.7 help mastermind yet another comeback for his team.

The hosts bounced back to trail 18-12 in the 58th minute when fullback Lachlan Coote grubbered for himself to score.

They then levelled through centre Justin O'Neill after the ball went through the hands of Thurston and halves partner Michael Morgan.

Brisbane looked well on top at halftime with outstanding second-rower Matt Gillett scoring two tries, but you can never write off a champion like Thurston and his star teammates.

COWBOYS 19 (M Scott, L Coote, J O'Neill tries; J Thurston 3 goals, field goal) def BRONCOS 18 (M Gillett 2, J Kahu tries; J Kahu 3 goals). Crowd: 25,163 at 1300 SMILES Stadium.
