Johnny Cash’s beloved Fender Malibu in the Tweed
OWNING a Fender Malibu guitar is enough to make you the object of envy, but having Johnny Cash's Fender is awesome.
Murwillumbah's Michael Newell has reason to smirk as he strums on the 1963 classic axe once owned by 'the man in black.'
"I guess it's pretty cool," he said with a smile.
But wait...there's more.
He bought it from the cold chiseller himself, Jimmy Barnes.
"Strangely, it was never a popular model," Mr Newell said.
Popular or not, it most likely pumped out the chords to 'I Walk the Line' and 'Ring of Fire,' two of Cash's most popular songs in 1963.
"If only it could talk," Mr Newell mused.
"What a story it would tell."
