THERE is a public meeting for people who want to form a group that will hold community events and raise money for the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service.

The northern region arm of the service is not-for-profit and provides free medical treatment and transport to people who need it.

The organisation, which relies on community support to operate, recently revealed ambitions to open a Murwillumbah op-shop and called for volunteers.

Now, in addition, the service hopes to form the Tweed Coast Support Group, as another way of raising funds.

Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter fundraising manager Zeke Huish said the group would act autonomously from the service and could hold community events to raise support.

These include activities such as bowls and golf days, and events such as raffles and sausage sizzles.

People can go to a public meeting at 10.30am on Thursday, December 15, at Kingscliff Bowling Club.

"Volunteer Support Groups are a lot of fun and enables people to offer as much or as little time as they wish,” Mr Huish said .
