Join in battle for life

TWEED residents are joining forces to fight back against cancer.

The team behind next month's Tweed Shire Relay for Life will host an information night next week, on September 10, at Pottsville Beach Sports from 6pm to explain how those interested can get involved in the event.

Newly appointed chairperson Debra Ward said she was calling on volunteers to join the organising committee of Pottsville's first Relay for Life.

“There are roles available for anyone that would like to be involved,” Ms Ward said.

“We're looking for people with a variety of skills - the one common denominator being enthusiasm.

“We have a chance to create something special for the many local people diagnosed with cancer each year.”

The Relay for Life will be held at the end of October.

Each year about 45,000 people take part in Relay events across NSW, at locations including Kyogle, Casino, Ballina, Grafton, Lismore, Murwillumbah, Yamba and Byron Bay.

For more information, contact Ms Ward on (02) 6674 1287 or (02) 6676 2930, or call the Cancer Council on (02) 6627 0300.
