Justine Elliot in the firing line over sacking of Tweed GM
RICHMOND MP Justine Elliot has been in the firing line, along with Tweed mayor over the firing of the council's GM, David Keenan.
Cr Phil Youngblutt Phil contacted My Daily News via Nationals media liaison Murray Lees claiming Mrs Elliot "needs to come clean as to her knowledge and actions in relation to the unprecedented sacking of council general manager David Keenan."
"The Labor Green alliance which controls council is just as dodgy and incompetent as the one that is running the country and Mrs Elliot has her fingers deep in both," Cr Youngblutt reportedly said.
His comments followed a 250-strong protest meeting against the GM sacking at the Murwillumbah Showground on Tuesday evening.
Mrs Elliot claims the attack is a diversion.
"These National Party lies are a desperate attempt to divert attention away from my community campaign to make the North Coast CSG Free," she said.
"We all know the National Party's motivation is to protect the interests of their mates such as coal seam gas mining companies.
"My position is clear, I stand with the community in opposing CSG Mining."
Tweed Chamber of Commerce president has accused the mayor, Barry Longland of saying one at election time to gain votes while believing in another "when it comes to the crunch."
"There is clearly no legal reason why he won't state the facts but there is certainly a moral one now for the Mayor and councillors Milne, Bagnall and Armstrong," he told My Daily News.
Cr Youngblutt claims Cr Armstrong will be "hopelessly conflicted between his day job fighting for Ms Elliot's political survival and his duties as a councillor."
"Council is now run by a virtual Labor Mayor, a real Labor deputy mayor and two Greens accomplices.
"It is inconceivable that top local Labor politician, Justine Elliot doesn't know what is going on and isn't pulling any strings."
Cr Youngblutt said Mrs Elliot needs to come clean.
"Ratepayers are being held hostage to Ms Elliot's future as a career politician until the September federal election and it is a disgrace."
