Family’s horror as kayaker pulled beneath rapids

A WOMAN has died after being swept under rapids and then trapped under a log while kayaking on the NSW mid-north coast

The 54-year-old woman had been kayaking on the Barrington River at Gloucester and was walking through the water when she was swept under the water by rapids about 12.40pm yesterday.

The woman was stuck under a log for a short time.

Family members attempted to assist the woman, but she died at the scene.

Police have launched an investigation and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
