Keep our beaches clean for Quiksilver Pro

WITH the Quiksilver Pro kicking off this weekend, it's an ideal time to keep our beaches clean with Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday March 2.

Clean Up Australia Day Coolangatta-Tweed Supervisor Trev "Big Trev" Arbon said with the influx of extra visitors, it's important to remind people to pick up after themselves.

With the Tweed's natural beauty playing a big part in tourism prospects, Mr Arbon said locals and visitors alike must take care of the region.

"You always find a lot of cigarette butts and bait bags along the river," Mr Arbon said.

"Clean Up Australia Day gets you thinking about the country where you live."

Mr Arbon was hopeful Clean Up Australia Day would inspire more people to clean up after themselves.

He said plastics, cigarette butts and bait bags were among the worst offenders in the Tweed.

Mr Arbon said it's not too late for people to sign up for the big clean up.

"People can register at cleanup.org.au or come down to Jack Evans Boat Harbour at 10am on Sunday," he said.
