A BURLEIGH Waters chiropractor and life coach is running in the next Gold Coast City Council elections to help build a healthier council.

Keith Maitland said witnessing some of the decisions the council had made in the past few years, including the handling of Allconnex, contributed to his decision to stand for Division 13 at the next council elections.

"I felt in the last few years that council has made some pretty bad decisions that have affected me," Mr Maitland said.

"They have to get more creative in getting an income."

Mr Maitland said he would also take some of his skills as a life coach into the chambers.

"I'm about supporting people in what they want," he said.

"I'm working on some software to create a connection between me and the people I will hopefully represent.

"I do what I can to make the world a better place."

One issue that Mr Maitland was hearing about from residents and responding to was the proposed Boral quarry in Reedy Creek.

"People have been buying land around this proposed quarry on the understanding this bush land was zoned for urban residential, park living and open space/nature conservation," Mr Maitland said.

"No home owner in Queensland is safe if this quarry goes ahead, as it would mean council zonings mean nothing.

"If we can't trust governments both local and state about the future use of surrounding land when we make house purchasing decisions, who can we trust?"
