Kennedy Dr upgrade to start, but not for what you think

A SIGNIFICANT upgrade to Tweed Heads power supply will occur along Kennedy Dr next month.

Essential Energy crews will tackle the upgrade and regional manager of north coast Brendon Neyland said the work will improve reliability and take into account the Tweed's continued population growth.

Crews will be installing new power lines on Kennedy Dr from next month.

"This significant project involves the replacement of 26 ageing power poles and installation of a second powerline above the existing lines to create a more sustainable power supply for years to come," he said.

"The work will strengthen the electrical infrastructure in Tweed Heads and with Kennedy Drive being the major link road between West Tweed and Tweed central, it will support the continuing population growth in the area."

Work will take place between Crown Reserve and Gray St, and along Kennedy Dr west to Seagulls Bridge and a small number of supply interruptions should be expected, with affected customers to be notified by mail.

Traffic control will be in place for the duration of the project.
