Kids in Community Awards winners

SOME of Tweed shire’s most inspiring young people took to the stage last night awarded for their positive contributions to the community and their strength against the odds.

More than 50 young people were nominated across nine categories in the annual Kids in Community Awards for supporting youth, becoming great role models and reversing the negative image of young people.

Kids in Community president Des Kelly said the nominees may not excel in sport or academia, but their optimism, generosity, enthusiasm, perseverance and courage was inspiring.

“If you treat people as they could be or should be, they will become what they could be and should be,” Mr Kelly said.

“Kids in Community is about strengthening good qualities through recognition.”

Award winners included Anna Hamer, Jacob Brown, Samara Bartlet, Lachlan Campbell, Jay Rickard, Crystal Ferguson, Jimmy McDermott, Kokerek Dance Group, Larissa Nicholson, Kate Hay and Riley Hodgson.
