Kids dream big at jobs expo
WHAT do you want to be when you grow up?
That was the burning question for excited students at the Careers Market Day, held for more than 400 local pupils at Tweed Heads South Public School on August 3.
Students from Years 5 and 6 were encouraged to "Dream Big” as part of this year's theme, and wasted no time in taking up the offer from various stall holders.
Children visited stalls including an optometrist, a dentist, a dance wear shop owner, Mc Donald's fast, local police, the Australian Federal police bomb squad and Kamilaroi Integrity equestrian.
Kamilaroi Integrity equestrian owner Karen Foran said her stall demonstrated to pupils that they could have a career in the stables based at Cabarita.
"We breed, break and train horse for the Queensland and NSW mounted units; we have apprentice jockeys and we're inclusive, working with those who have a disability,” Ms Foran said.
Research shows that children as young as five can talk and think about what they want to do when they leave school and the day will assist them in understanding the links between learning and work.
