Kids have a ball at beach day
MORE than 170 children converged at Greenmount on Saturday for the third annual Gold Coast Youth Development Beach Challenge.
Essentially a day for some fun in the sun, the event attracted eight-member teams from each of the surf lifesaving clubs from Rainbow Bay to Stradbroke.
While there were several water-based challenges, beach volleyball, touch football, soccer and dodge ball dominated the day.
As their seniors do so often in the ironman series, Northcliffe ended the day on top, with the host club Tweed Heads and Coolangatta, finishing fifth.
“It was a great day,” organiser Megan Stewart said.
“Everyone had a ball, so to speak, and really enjoyed themselves.”
