Kids put twist on Shakespeare

TALENTED young actors will show off their skills in an upcoming Shakespeare performance.

The students from DoubleMask Drama, run by local teacher Lachlan Glasby, are well into rehearsals for their upcoming production Shakespeare Story.

We can expect another fun filled musical from the group that promises to keep audiences captivated.

"Essentially it's Shakespeare if Shakespeare's characters were put into a supermarket and were allowed to sing," teacher Mr Glasby said.

"You're dealing with lying, deceit, treachery - and if you replace Kings and Queens with Managers and Workers it works beautifully."

Mr Glasby said there were 16 original tracks written specifically for the production, by the students.

The musical, which makes it's world premier at the Murwillumbah Civic Centre on September 21st and 22nd, takes famous plots and characters from William Shakespeare's works and updates them.

A task that Mr Glasby said was easier than he originally thought.

"The kids are so excited," he said.

"It's a great chance for them to get a bit of exposure."

The production took a lot of hard work to create; they spent 20 weeks on their new production.

If you are eager to catch the young theatre company they will perform at the Tyalgum Festival of Classical Music on Saturday.

They will perform Mozart's Letters.

The beautiful piece of theatre incorporates letters taken from Donovon Bixley's book Faithfully Mozart.

The three actors will each perform periods of Mozart's life, through the performance of his letters.

Classical pianist Misaki Hori will play a complementary piece of Mozart's music between the acts.

To check it out, make sure you head down to the fantastic festival on Saturday.

Tickets for the Shakespeare performance are on sale now at Murwillumbah Music, Style 2484 and Sportsworld Murwillumbah for $10.00 per adult and $5.00 for concession.
