Kindy kids excel on first day
KINDY kids across the Tweed settled into their tiny classroom chairs this morning.
My Daily News visited Murwillumbah East Public School's children as they met their classmates and teachers.
KW teacher Lyn Watts had her kids sing "good morning, good morning, a good day to you" to each other.
"Did any of you look forward to school?" Ms Watts asked. "Or did you want to stay home with your mum?"
She then read The Kissing Hand to the children, about the story of Chester the raccoon and his mother on the first day of school.
Kindergarten teacher Meg Davidson had her children colouring in apples on pieces of paper with their names on them.
And many of the students were doing a terrific job colouring inside the lines.
"Keep your back straight, your chair in and be doing your very best work," Ms Davidson said.
"I've definitely got the best class in the school," she said in regard to her group's quiet diligence.
The students then traced their fingers around lower case letter As, before tracing them with crayons and singing "ants in the apple, a a a, ants in the apple, a a a". Then her students sat on the Smart Floor, after pushing their chairs in to the table, and worked on the Smart Board - computerised whiteboard.
