King-size headache for titles

ORGANISERS of the NSW Surf Life Saving Championships might have more to worry about than a lack of beach.

Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club president Adam Mills said king tides were expected on the weekend of the senior competition.

"We may be having to rally events in front of the bowls club," Mr Mills said.

"We are expecting the king tides at about 10am or 11am."

Mr Mills said the there would be a "tidal influence" on competitions, but the safety of competitors would depend on weather conditions.

King tides added to the logistical issues with the resources already stretched with boating events to be moved to South Fingal beach due to the erosion at Kingscliff.

Mr Mills said earlier this week 6000 competitors had registered for the nine-day event, with several large NSW clubs still to confirm numbers.

High tides for the start of the open competition on March 9 were predicted to be up to 1.54m.

During the start of the junior competition on March 2 the high tide was predicted to be up to 1.12m.
