Kings tighten defence for Musgrave
MUSGRAVE have scored just seven goals this season in the Gold Coast Soccer Premier League, and Tweed Valley Kings won’t want them to add to that tally when the two teams meet today.
While the Kings are coming off two big wins in four days, they had to come from behind both times, after periods of sloppy defence proved costly.
They were forced to come from 2-0 down in a catch-up game with Nerang on Tuesday night, but ran out easy 5-2 winners in the boggy conditions.
Coach Craig Madden wants the dawdling to end and wants a ruthless, focused performance from his men today at Keith Hunt Park.
“I was very disappointed in the way we let in two very soft goals on Tuesday. We don’t want to concede any goals this week,” Madden said.
“We’ve still got a lot of improving to do, and we need to take it game by game and stop conceding these soft goals.
“A lack of concentration for periods of the game is really hurting us.”
The team will finally be able to play on a hard ground, which will suit its style.
“We just want to go out there and play our own style of football and get away with the win,” Madden said.
Should they win against 10th-placed Musgrave, the Kings have a chance to move from fourth to second on the table, with the top two teams, Palm Beach and Broadbeach, playing today.
Third-placed Southport also faces a test against sixth-placed Merrimac.
The Kings will be boosted by the return of Aron Hodges and Ben Walden.
“There is going to be a bit of pressure on everyone, which is a good thing to have,” Madden said.
