Fire crews battle Kings Forest blaze for five hours

THE NORTH Coast Rural Fire Service attended a blaze in Kings Forest, Pottsville on Sunday.

Operational services coordinator Matt Inwood said residents reported the fire in the northern part of the forest at about 1pm.

Three tankers arrived at the blaze and worked to extinguish it for over five hours.

"The weather was quite warm which kept the fire actively working," Mr Inwood said.

The fire destroyed an acre-and-a-half of bushland and its cause is yet to be determined.

Mr Inwood said residents should stay vigilant in fire safety.

"All over Australia and indeed in the far north coast we have seen very dry conditions over the last 12 months," Mr Inwood said.

"At this time of year there's a lot fire hazard reduction burns, we're certainly encouraging that, but people need to stay vigilant."

"If you see an unattended fire contact triple-0 to report it."

Families need to ensure they have a fire survival plan, while residents who are back burning should plan ahead.

"Please note the weather forecasts to see what conditions are expected before you begin fire hazard reduction burns," Mr Inwood said.

"Be aware that heading into July and August western winds typically commence."
