Protesters collect submissions
PROTESTERS against the Kings Forest development will meet on Wednesday to gather as many submissions as possible to send to the State Government.
The NSW Government is accepting submissions on stage one of the planned 4500-lot development until January 25.
Protesters want questions answered at the meeting, running from 7-9pm at the Cabarita Beach Sports Club.
Organiser Menkit Prince said questions included how the development would impact sustainability, roads, traffic congestion, community facilities and future rates.
"It's to help people make their submissions," Ms Prince said.
Ms Prince said project developers Leda Developments would be invited to give feedback.
Leda regional manager Reg Van Rij, who attended a recent pro-koala protest at the site, said he would be overseas at the time. Mr Van Rij said prior to organisation of the meeting, that the number of submissions would not influence the NSW Government's planning process.
He said the future of Kings Forest had been determined by successive councils and state governments since the township was first proposed in the Tweed Shire Council's Strategic Plan in 1974.
"I think former shire president Cr Max Boyd put it best back in 1988: 'Many years of detailed studies, supporting submissions by developers' consultants, and hours upon hours of meetings with various groups and government departments have (at long last) resulted in a statutory rezoning of this part of the Shire … Council fully supports this project," Mr Van Rij said. "This project application simply delivers on the concept plan."
