Kings not taking it easy
THERE are no easy games in the Gold Coast Soccer premier league, Tweed Valley Kings coach Craig Madden said as his team prepared to host the winless Surfers Paradise at Reg Dalton Oval.
The Kings emerge from an extremely tough start to the season, where the team faced last year's top five teams. They are in fifth place with two wins, two draws and a loss, and could almost be forgiven for breathing a sigh of relief, but that would be a mistake, according to Madden.
“There are no easy games. We have just got to take each team as they come,” he said.
In two games played within three days of each other earlier this week, the Kings were disappointing by their own standards and will need to lift.
Captain Luke Craig, plus Chris Edwards, return for the Kings, making it a full-strength squad with the exception of Leighton Pauley, who has damaged ligaments in his ankle and is weeks away from a return.
“We need to get back to how we played in the first three games,” Madden said.
“It's going to be tough and we're looking to get back into the winners' circle and take the three points.
“They need the points because they haven't been going well. Every team that struggles is looking for a win sooner or later, and we don't want it to be against us.”
Although unhappy with the past two clashes, with Burleigh and Magic United, Madden is relatively content with where his team is at after five rounds.
Tomorrow is the Kings' first day-time return to Reg Dalton Oval this season and they are hoping to get a big crowd in support. A new grandstand has been erected and club officials are hoping the Tweed can witness its first Mexican wave, when the crowd starts getting excited.
Games start at noon and 2pm, with the main game at 4pm.
In other premier league matches, Gold Coast Knights play Coomera, Burleigh Heads play Palm Beach, Musgrave plays Magic United, Southport takes on Broadbeach United and Merrimac clashes with Nerang.
