Kingscliff crime gang bust, charges laid

ONE man is behind bars and another man is due to face court after police bust a well-organised group alleged to be behind a spate of thefts around Kingscliff.

Kingscliff police were called to a holiday home just south of Kingscliff yesterday following reports of a stolen motorbike where they located several items believed to be stolen including computers, tables, phones a generator and compressor.

The items are alleged to have been stolen by a well organised group targeting construction sites and unsecured vehicles in Kingscliff and surrounding areas.

Working alongside plain-clothed officers, detectives and dog handlers, the officers arrested the first man after a short foot chase. He was later taken to Tweed Heads police station and charged with several offences including possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of prohibited drugs and motor vehicle theft.

He appeared in Tweed Heads Local Court today where he pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was refused bail and remanded in custody until a second hearing due in early 2017.

A second man has also been charged with several property and drug related offences. He was granted bail and is due to return to court in the new year.

Two females at the property were also charged after police found quantities of illegal drugs in their property and are due to face court on January 9, 2017.
