Kingscliff erosion moves north
THE erosion at Kingscliff has moved north threatening to claim land around the bowling club.
Tweed Shire Council natural resource management coordinator Jane Lofthouse said the wall was holding in front of the Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club, but it was being monitored closely.
"The wall was built in the 60s and it was upgraded in 1995 to a one-in-a-hundred-years standard," Ms Lofthouse said.
"At this stage there are some issues at the wall, but it still hasn't got around the back of the wall.
"At the moment there is no beach access at the car park."
Last year erosion threatened the closure of the Kingscliff Holiday Park with an amenities block under threat and the surf club
Tweed Shire Council built a break wall in front of the club and sandbagged the beach to stop the erosion.
Beach erosion has moved north with sands starting to build up at the southern end of the beach near the entrance on Cudgen Creek.
