Kirkwood Rd extension facing lengthy delay

SOFT soil issues and rainy days have delayed progress on the Kirkwood Rd project recently, with final asphalt construction expected to be completed by late November.

Project Manager, Jason Young said bad weather and unforseen soil settlement issues hindered the project, but the contractor had dealt with these issues promptly and professionally.

"The works have been impacted on by a number of very wet months which hindered completion of the adjacent structures," Mr Young said.

"The contractor faced these challenges with a professional outlook and has continued to progress these works in a timely manner."

When completed the first stage of the project will provide an alternate route into Tweed Heads South for the public, and the final stage another exit linking to Minjungbal Dr.
