Kite fest helps Kirra fly high

KIRRA residents are flying high after the success of their weekend festival.

The sky was splashed with colour as the second annual Kirra Kite Festival drew hundreds of people to the shore to take part in the cultural mecca.

Along with the array of beautiful kites, circus performers, camel rides, delicious treats there were pop-up fashion stalls on display.

Event manager Freddy Holler said the event has found the best possible home in the idyllic Kirra community.

"Kirra beach is an ideal location to host the kite festival with expansive beach, large parkland and al fresco dining," said Mr Holler.

"It's a unique multicultural event for the Southern Gold Coast region."

Flying above Kirra Beach were large character kites from Queensland and racing kites from Tasmania, Sydney and Adelaide.

Iconic Gold Coast fashion labels Love St and Emma Milikins hosted a Queens of the Camels fashion parade yesterday.

Models took a leisurely ride atop the camels and along the picturesque beach front to showcase the labels deigns to the enthusiastic crowd.
