Kruse: Old players need push

SOCCEROOS forward Robbie Kruse is aware of all the speculation regarding many of his ageing teammates.

And the only way he believes they will get better is if the youngsters in the squad keep pushing them at training.

Australia must win its World Cup qualifier on Wednesday morning in Doha to maintain its hopes of qualifying for the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

"There's a lot of young players playing now and hopefully we can keep pushing and get more playing time," Kruse said. "Hopefully we can keep pushing the older players and keep trying to better the national team and ourselves."

Kruse said since his team's shock 2-1 loss to Jordan, the Socceroos had picked up their intensity at training adding he was confident of a better showing.

"The Jordan game wasn't a great result - it wasn't a good performance and we've been pretty critical on ourselves and how we perform," he said. "The boss is putting us through our paces at training. We're starting to play some good football as well."
