Kyrgios daring to dream

AUSTRALIANS Bernard Tomic and Nick Kyrgios will attempt to keep their Australian Open campaigns alive at Melbourne Park today.

In fourth round day matches, Tomic will take on Czech seventh seed Tomas Berdych, and Kyrgios the giant-killing Italian Andreas Seppi - the slayer of second seed and 17-time slam winner Roger Federer on Friday.

"Seeing Roger knocked out in the third round ... I know I've got a really good opportunity now, but in saying that I'm sure Seppi is saying the same thing," Kyrgios said.

"Seppi played some of the best tennis I've seen him play (against Federer) and I know what he's capable of," Kyrgios said.

Seppi, 30, is ranked 46th in the world but has never progressed past round four of a slam, while 53rd-ranked Kyrgios, 19, already has a quarter-final appearance to his name after upsetting Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon last year.

Tomic, 23, ranked No.66 in the world, carries the underdog tag into his clash with 29-year-old US Open semi-finalist Berdych.

Yesterday the defending Australian Open champion, Switzerland's Stan Wawrinka, cruised into the fourth round by toppling Finland's Jarkko Nieminen 6-4 6-2 6-4.

Other seeds to progress in the men's draw were Feliciano Lopez, Milos Raonic and Kei Nishikori, but 19th seed John Isner was beaten in straight seeds by Gilles Muller.

World No.1 Novak Djokovic beat Ferndando Verdasco in straight sets last night 7-6 (10-8) 6-3 6-4.

In the women's draw, American top seed Serena Williams rallied to beat Ukrainian 26th seed Elina Svitolina 4-6 6-2 6-4.

Fellow seeds Agnieszka Radwanska, Venus Williams and Garbine Muguruza progressed, but Barbara Zahlovova Strycova was beaten.

Dominika Cibulkova, an Australian Open finalist last year, beat Alize Cornet.

Among today's matches, Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep and Eugenie Bouchard all have fourth round encounters.
