Landslip to cost Tweed council $30,000 to repair

A LANDSLIP on a road leading to Tyalgum will cost Tweed Council roughly $30,000 to repair.

The slip, which is roughly one metre deep, is located on Limpinwood Rd, a few kilometres from Tyalgum.

It is one of nine landslips scattered around the Tweed Shire.

Only three slips at Tomewin Rd, Numinbah Rd and Rowlands Ck Rd will be covered by the Federal Government's Natural Disaster funding arrangements, because they resulted from the January flood event.

Council will fully fund repairs on six others, located at Kyogle Rd, Urliup Rd, Dulguigan Rd, Mt Warning Road and an additional slip on Limpinwood Rd."It happened in March, following a prolonged period of soaking rain and the Australia Day flood event," a council spokeswoman said, referring to the Limpinwood Rd slip near Tyalgum.

"As it did not occur at the January flood event, it is not claimable under Natural Disaster funding arrangements.

"Council reduced the road to one lane and used barriers and give way signs until money became available as part of the new financial year."

The spokeswoman said work on the landslip near Tyalgum was expected to be completed by the end of the week, or soon after, weather permitting.
