Last chance to race

NOMINATIONS for Monday’s big Casella Wines Murwillumbah Cup program have been extended for all three feature events.

Extended nominations for the Murwillumbah Cup, Murwillumbah Newmarket, and Glider Classic for two year olds, will close at 11am today.

A total of 130 nominations were received for the eight-race program including 27 for one 1000m maiden plate.

“We’ve had another big response from connections,” Tweed River Jockey Club chairman Bernie Quinn said.

“And we’ve had some good quality thoroughbreds nominated so far.

“Who knows we might get a few more.

“Certainly the track’s in good order at the moment and we’re getting lots of sunshine.”

Eagle Farm and Doomben winner Borsha’s Mark, trained on the Gold Coast by Les Kelly, is one of the nominators for the 1200m Murwillumbah Newmarket.

The five-year-old gelding has had six wins from 22 career starts and has won $229,000 in prizemoney.

Among the nominations for the 2000m Murwillumbah Cup are this year’s Lismore Cup winner Hecentadove and runner-up Bold Contact.

Also nominated is Brilliant Ween, who took out the Christmas Cup at Ballina on Friday, making him an automatic qualifier for Monday’s race.

It’s the end of a big month for the club, including a highly successful Melbourne Cup Day race day.
