New bus route numbers unknown

OFFICIAL numbers for the Coolangatta NightLink bus’s maiden trip are unknown.

The late night bus service started on Saturday and Sunday morning taking Coolangatta revellers as far south as Kingscliff.

A spokeswoman from Councillor Chris Robbins’ office said “it normally takes a few days for a trip’s data to be loaded into TransLink’s reporting databases”.

The N978 service runs hourly between 1.15 and 4.15am DST every Saturday and Sunday.

Coolangatta Police Sergeant Steve Quinn said he saw a few people using the bus.

“I think it’s going to take a little while for people to get the idea there’s a bus that can take you to Kingscliff,” he said.

Sgt Quinn said they were speaking with pubs and clubs to try and promote the trial service.

The bus is funded by Gold Coast City Council in partnership with TransLink and Surfside Buslines.

A Tweed Shire Council spokeswoman last week said the council was considering ideas to extend the service to Pottsville.

One option was a maxi taxi to run from Kingscliff to Pottsville.
