Laura Geitz re-appointed Diamonds captain

ALLORA star Laura Geitz has been re-appointed Australian Diamonds netball captain after leading the side to Commonwealth Games gold last year.

The big news is that Julie Corletto and Renae Hallinan have joined captain Geitz and Vice-Captain Kimberlee Green in the leadership group.

Geitz has been reappointed Australian Diamonds Captain and Green named Vice-Captain after sharing that role with Bianca Chatfield for the past two international seasons.

Corletto and Hallinan were selected into the leadership group at the Diamonds' training camp in November last year and Australian Diamonds Coach Lisa Alexander said she's delighted to have four outstanding athletes filling the key roles.

Geitz was appointed Diamonds captain in 2013 and has led Australia in 18 Tests with a remarkable 94 per cent winning record, highlighted by the 2014 Commonwealth Games Gold Medal in Glasgow.

"Laura has simply been outstanding as Captain, she is humble enough to know that she can always learn and get better as an athlete and a leader," Alexander said.

"She truly exhibits our `Sisters in Arms' trademark and our expected behaviours and that's why her teammates respect Laura as a leader."

Green stepped up to lead the Diamonds in the two Tests against England at the end of last year when Geitz was injured. Alexander said Green's `team first' ethic sets an example to the rest of the squad.

"Kim showed her true colours leading the team under adversity and that's what the playing group respects about her. She is still demanding on the team and herself," Alexander said.

Alexander said Hallinan and Corletto will complement the leadership given by Geitz and Green.

"Renae and Julie have experienced hardship over their careers but that's how real growth as a person occurs," Alexander said.

"They've both shown with their actions that they just get on with things and, again, try to be the best netballers they can be. I am delighted to have both Renae and Julie contribute to this most important aspect of our High Performance vision."

Alexander said Australia's team for August's Netball World Cup 2015 SYDNEY would be announced in June following the 2015 ANZ Championship season.
