Leading ladies welcomed home

Two of the Gold Coast's leading ladies will be welcomed home with a special event to be held by Gold Coast City Council.

US Open winner Sam Stosur and world champion hurdler Sally Pearson will be presented with keys to the city at 3pm on Monday.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for the whole community to come down to the parklands and show their pride and support for Sam and Sally," Mayor Ron Clarke said.

"The whole city is buzzing over Sam and Sallys' recent achievements and Monday's event is a way of saying thank you to them."

The event will be attended by Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, Cr Clarke, Queensland Minister for Sport Phil Reeves and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Bid CEO Mark Peters.

"Despite being at the top of their respective fields, Sam and Sally have shown themselves to be modest and humble champions and they are both wonderful ambassadors for the Gold Coast and the nation,"Cr Clarke said.

The event will be held at the Southport Broadwater Parklands on Monday, September 19 at 3pm.
