Leading lady’s Northern Rivers homecoming

THE career of a leading lady of the stage and screen will come full circle in August when she returns for an intimate performance and special workshop at Tyalgum.

In partnership with Hearts Aflame Productions, stage favourite Rachael Beck will appear in concert at Tyalgum Hall on Saturday, August 20, to perform a dynamic range of pop and musical theatre hits.

"We are so thrilled to have a performer of Rachael's calibre starring in a one-off show like this at Tyalgum," Hearts Aflame Productions' spokesperson Solar Chapel said.

"The whole village is abuzz with the news and everyone is looking forward to welcoming her back to the Northern Rivers."

While Beck has reached great heights over a three- decade career which has seen her star in musical productions such as Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserables, The Sound of Music and Cabaret, she is a country kid at heart whose dreams began in the Northern Rivers.

Born and raised in Alstonville near Lismore, Beck took tap, jazz, and ballet while competing in local eisteddfods, before a move to Sydney at 15 saw her career take off when she was cast as Rumpleteazer in the Melbourne season of Cats.

As a stage actress, Beck has won acclaim for her roles in Summer Rain, Secret Bridesmaids' Business, A Little Night Music, Henry IV and The Pyjama Game.

Also a familiar face on television, she has branched out on to the screen on Australian shows such as Home and Away, It takes Two, Flying Doctors and Hey Dad.

Following her performance, Beck will be back at Tyalgum Hall on Sunday to present a special workshop on acting, singing and movement for budding young performers.

"We are particularly excited that Rachael has generously offered to present a workshop for our talented young singers and actors," Mr Chapel said

"Learning from one of Australia's foremost leading ladies is an extraordinary opportunity for our local performers."

Dinner and show packages are available, which includes a two-course pre-show dinner at Flutterbies Cottage Cafe.

Beck's Acting, Singing and Movement workshop on Sunday, August 21, is designed for children and teenagers aged 10 to 18.
