Learning the art of wine tasting

EVERYONE loves to wine and dine and a group of over 55s in Kirra yesterday showed they did not have an aversion to the former.

The group of 35 people gathered at Cafe Fresh Lounge Bar to get a crash course from wine experts.

The event was part of the Lifestyle by Serene community activity program that included, among other things, social media and photography classes.

Banora Point resident Barry Tebby said he had a long, albeit slightly unconventional interest in wine.

"I've worked in a few wineries as a bricklayer," Mr Tebby said.

"They don't normally do it, but I used to talk to the blenders instead of talking to the other workers.

"I know what I like and what I don't like."

His wife Susan Tebby said she was the designated driver.

"I don't drink. It doesn't agree with me," Mrs Tebby said.

"I'll have a taste so I can drink it and I'll drive home."

Serene Living director Ben Fuller said the lifestyle initiative was about community engagement.

Mr Fuller said it was a great opportunity for those who wanted to get to know their wines more intimately and become novice wine connoisseurs.
