Learning to let go
MURWILLUMBAH mum Rai O'Brien needed kinesiologist Ronda Graham's help with her daughter Charlie's allergies.
Ms Graham used her relaxing, muscle-testing and stress-relieving technique to instead help Ms O'Brien directly.
Ms O'Brien said it worked, she had regularly returned to Ms Graham's services and her three year old had indirectly been "great since".
Ms Graham said mothers so often put themselves last while busy in their thankless task "everything else falls apart".
"Mums need to remember that if they can be chilled and relaxed, their children will also be happy and content," she said.
"Kinergetics is all about releasing the stresses you're holding within, so you can relax and flow.
"It uses muscle testing to help people let go of the negatives and be more positive and happy within themselves."
Ms O'Brien said kinergetics helped her access emotions and stresses she might not be consciously aware of.
"Once we start talking about it I realise it's been having more of an effect on me than I actually realised."
She started using kinergetics as therapy 17 years ago during those angsty high school years we are all familiar with.
"It's different to what it was years ago - it's always changing and developing.
"Now I'm trying to help my daughter adjust to school, but it's an adjustment for me too.
"When she comes home with readers and starts pulling things out of her bag I think '10 minutes of home work: where am I going to fit that?'
"Every kinergetics session is different, even with the same practitioner; it depends more on the issue that you're working on and how it comes out."
Ms Graham explained it was like baking a cake - you have a basic recipe, and during each "baking" session you "might add cherries or icing".
Swiss-born Evelyne Lorimier said Ms Graham helped her cope with occasional stresses around caring for daughters Melody, 7, and Thalia, 4.
"She asks the body," the Murwillumbah resident of nine years said.
"You just have to say 'yeah I have stress' and they find where the blockage is - then you find yourself anew."
