Leda boss slams ‘errors’ in independent council report
THE Tweed's biggest developer Leda wants "errors" changed in a secret independent report that investigated the troubled relationship between the company and council.
That is despite the SINC Solutions report directing some of its sharpest criticism at council staff.
SINC was engaged by council in June 2013 to examine complaints against Tweed council by Leda as it seeks approvals for its major housing developments at Cobaki and Kings Forest.
Councillors have the full report but Leda was given a highly edited extract.
But the company is "aggravated as they contend matters stated as fact are incorrect", according to a report by council general manager Troy Green presented to the council at its January 23 meeting.
In his report, Mr Green said Leda regional manager Reg van Rij had highlighted the SINC report's "robust criticism of council staff and that policies and procedures of council had not been followed by council staff" during a meeting with himself.
Mr van Rij identified "political obstruction" as the core problem and later requested changes to the report.
Mr Green advised the council was not in a position to amend it and it would be against the independence of the review.
Mr van Rij had also expressed anger at not being provided with a complete copy of the report.
But Mr Green told Mr van Rij that the council was acting on legal advice after he threatened, even before the investigation was undertaken, to take legal action against the council and go to the media when it was released.
Despite these points of contention, Mr Green said the relationship with Leda was improving with the report's 19 publicly-released recommendations being progressed.
Five candidates, including former premier of Tasmania David Bartlett, are being considered for the role of independent chair to resolve future disputes between the council and Leda.
