Lennox identity charged over death

WELL-known Lennox Head woman Louise Owen has been charged after a fatal car crash in March on the Bruxner Hwy at Casino.

Ms Owen, 51, is caretaker president of the Lennox Head Chamber of Commerce until the annual general meeting, but will step down.

She had announced earlier this year that she would stand in B Ward in the Ballina Shire Council elections. She did not ultimately nominate.

Police allege that around 3pm on March 20, Ms Owen was travelling east towards Casino in a black Subaru Liberty.

At the time a silver Ford Falcon was travelling west towards Lismore.

Police allege the Subaru failed to follow the left bend in the road and collided head-on with the Falcon.

The 62-year-old female driver of the Falcon was killed.

The driver's four-year-old grandson was in the rear seat.

Ms Owen suffered a broken hip and ankle.

Police from Richmond Crash Investigation Unit charged Ms Owen on Monday with dangerous driving causing death; negligent driving (occasioning death) and not keeping left of the dividing line.

The matter will be heard in Casino Local Court on October 17.
