Leo Zussino appointed as GPC chairman

LEO Zussino will replace Mark Brodie as the chairman of the Gladstone Ports Corporation, as part of an overhaul of Queensland government-owned corporations' board appointments.

Mr Brodie, a close friend of former state premier Campbell Newman and LNP donor, was appointed chairman soon after the LNP won the 2012 state election, controversially ousting long time chairman Ian Brusasco.

Mr Zussino's contract as CEO of the corporation was not renewed in February 2013, and he left the corporation that August after he had served 12 years as CEO and the previous nine years as chairman of the corporation's board. He was replaced as CEO by current chief Craig Doyle.

The move, announced this morning, will see Mr Zussino's role go full circle.

During his term as CEO, Mr Zussino was responsible for developing a 50-year plan for the port - something that had never been achieved before in state owned corporations.

In more recent times, Mr Zussino has been chairing an investigation into the financial impacts of FIFO on communities.
